We Took The Risk is a collection of insights drawn from women who have navigated risks and can authoritatively demonstrate the value and importance of risk-taking. The purpose of it is to supply evidence that can aid the conversations and call on the need to emphasize building risk-taking competencies among women. It is also intended to help shift the narrative of risk-taking from focusing on potential pain and loss to potential benefit, & from being the work of guessing to making smart, thoughtful choices.

Description

Risk-taking is a fundamental component of leadership and innovation in the business world. It is also one of the key competencies that drive career progression and exceptional personal growth and success. However, studies show that women often exhibit lower levels of risk-taking behaviours compared to their male counterparts.

Many women continue to perceive risk-taking as dangerous, potentially painful, and likely to lead to loss. This perception has been the reason why many have been unable to fully deploy themselves and take on opportunities cut for them. It is our opinion that if women were less risk-averse, and more risk-tolerant or even more risk-competent, they would post more and better outcomes than they are currently doing in nearly all relevant spheres of their lives.

In view of the above, there is a need to DEMONSTRATE HOW BEST WOMEN CAN NAVIGATE RISK-TAKING AND REPOSITION RISK AND RISK-TAKING as a positive thing, especially among women and women leaders in what we call DERISKING RISK-TAKING. There is also a need to RECONFIGURE CONVERSATIONS about risk-taking, emphasizing its potential value and the need to consider risk-taking competencies and risk-tolerance building as critical elements of effective leadership competencies, as well as a necessary strategy for boosting women’s competitiveness.
