Just Being: Reflections on Life, Coaching and The Evolving Story of the Future Africa

Just Being is a conversation: a conversation with ourselves, and with others in the teams, organisations and communities that we are part of. It is a conversation with Africa, Africans and friends of Africa. It is an opportunity to reflect on the emerging stories of our lives, landmark moments in our stories and how we can consciously and deliberately steer our stories into the future. It is a challenge to develop the capacity to courageously tell our own stories as they emerge – the good, the bad and the ugly. A challenge to just be ourselves. In just being, we discover ourselves, accept ourselves and fully apply ourselves to the stories of our lives.

About the Author

Dr David Thuku is an International Coaching Federation (ICF) Associate Certified Coach (ACC), and served as President of the ICF Kenya Chapter, 2021. He is passionate about creating positive impact in Africa through Coaching and Leadership Development.

Working with leaders to illuminate their evolving stories and locate themselves as active participants of their stories, David empowers individuals and teams to be deliberate architects of their journey towards their success. He holds a Doctor in Business Administration (DBA) from the University of Liverpool, UK; Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Nairobi; Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from Kenyatta University, Post-Graduate Diploma in Marketing from the Marketing Institute of Singapore, Practitioner Diploma in Executive Coaching from the Academy of Executive Coaching
(AoEC) and Certificate in Systemic Team Coaching from AoEC.

For 29 years, David served in senior leadership roles in the banking industry, within Africa and beyond. He continues to serve in Boards within commercial, non-profit and educational institutions.He is a Coach and a Cohort Facilitator with the Breakfast Club Africa (BCA), a leadership effectiveness facilitator and an associate coach with several executive coaching panels across Africa. David is married to his best friend Lilian Wairimu and they are blessed with three wonderful children – Lorna, Victor and Albert.
